A message of Fear?

While valid as an artistic expression, is it appropriate for an organization such as AIDS Vancouver Island to have a monster built out of pill bottles as a welcoming image on its web site?
How unfriendly. Imagine the newly diagnosed looking for information being confronted with a gruesome monster?
I've heard so often that your organization is run by a large uncommunicative and inaccesible management. Perhaps then the monster is appropriate. I don't know.

pill man
I hadn't thought about it before. I can see why it would be put up being htat it was made by someone with aids and it has an important message behind it I think, but maybe is time to put something else up. Would it scare off people who just got aids I don't know? I wonder what others think about it any other comments?
Pill man
I think this is an important thread and I hope theres a discusion at AVI about it. Any response from AVI about this?
Important stuff yes
Hiya. Like I don't understand that place, they ignore the important stuff. The "Communications Officer" has time to talk about chocolate though. My mother is going to write a letter to the funders. jp
Oh, I guess I'll write too.
Infinity Man
This structure, a piece of art, was build by an HIV positive person. It is a tangible expression of the impact HIV/AIDS has on an individuals’ life – taking lots of medication, indefinitely. AVI did not commission the work, nor was Jamie paid for his work. Jamie’s contribution is a significant one, worthy of honour and respect.
The Infinity Man has been used at various public information presentations, in our window display at the office and at the AIDS Walk. It is a powerful image with a strong prevention message.
As you’ve probably noted from previous visits, the photos on the front page change periodically and will continue to do so.

Messages of Fear
Well so much for addressing the messages of fear issue. Or for creativity and strategic communications: does anyone there have a university degree? Considering your upcoming Private Parts conference, how about a friendly picture now of gay men, welcoming them. Just a suggestion.
